On Wednesday August 8, Bestman Games Limited took financial education to the National Youth Service Corp Orientation Camp at Iyana Ipaja in Lagos State – as part of the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Program. (SEAD)
Sadly, financial education is not in the national school curriculum, so children go through school, on to higher education and into the work force with little or no financial knowledge. It Is therefore important for us to empower our youth by equipping them with critical life skills in money management. This financial literacy program was hosted in partnership with Leadway Assurance Limited and was aimed at equipping our young graduates with skills crucial for leading a financially responsible life as they prepare for the world of work.
The young graduates were introduced to the basic tenets of money management from saving, investing, borrowing, insurance, taxation, and entrepreneurship.
“We are delighted to be part of the outstanding SAED programme and hope that the Youth Corpers take full advantage of it. With the level of unemployment that we are grappling with, the skills that they learnt will equip them and prepare them to be self-employed and indeed to create jobs for others. Financial education is vitally important to help our youth avoid the common financial pitfalls that so many adults face.
The Monopoly Champion was Chinwendu Okere of platoon 9 while the 1st and 2nd runners up were Ifeoluwa Ajama of platoon 9 and Francis Olisah of platoon 2. Winners received wonderful gifts including Monopoly board games, Mutual Fund gift vouchers courtesy of FBNQuest Assets Management, great souvenirs from Leadway Assurance Limited and copies of “A-Z of Personal Finance” by Nimi Akinkugbe
Board games and other experiential activities are excellent ways to teach important money skills as they engage, empower and educate” says Nimi Akinkugbe, CEO of Bestman Games.
This is part of Bestman Games’ Not for Profit Initiative to give the gift of financial literacy to our youth.
