BESTMAN GAMES ANNUAL CHILDREN’S FINANCE FAIR
For the past three years, Bestman Games and Money Matters with Nimi have hosted a Children’s Finance Fair in celebration of Children’s Day. This novel event has become an important fixture on the financial education calendar, and is targeted at children age 17 and below as well as their parents, grandparents, teachers and guardians.
The Annual Children’s Finance Fair celebrates the Nigerian child, and seeks to empower our youth by equipping them with critical life skills in money management. “Sadly financial education is not in the school curriculum; the responsibility thus falls on parents, teachers and guardians to be deliberate about equipping their children with this knowledge from their earliest years,” says Nimi Akinkugbe CEO Bestman Games and Founder, Money Matters with Nimi.
In 2019, Lagos State Ministry of Education approved the establishment of Financial Literacy School clubs as an Extra Curricular Activity to introduce financial knowledge to thousands of children in an engaging way. So far close to 70 clubs have been set up.
The Children’s Finance Fair also addresses pertinent issues parents face in planning for their children’s education, one of the most important legacies a parent can bequeath a child. At the fair, children were treated to an array of quizzes, puzzles and games. Children played The Bible Game and an exciting mini Monopoly Tournament also took place with attractive prizes for winners.
A series of informative workshops also held with presentations by a lineup of seasoned speakers who shared their wealth of knowledge and experience. We are so thankful to our past speakers including: Yetunde Williams: Founder Lagos Mums, Ibiai Ani: The Daisy Management Center, Junior Achievement Nigeria, Reyclepoints, Brainhouse Nigeria. Lebari EdopUkpong of Inside Edge Consulting, Bowale Agboade, Founder The Kid Entrepreneurs Club.
Topics covered identifying your children’s personality, strengths, weaknesses, gifts, talents, teaching children and minors about money, planning for a child’s education. Bunmi Aboderin-Talabi, Founder, Clever Clogs Books, hosted a delightful Reading Corner for the children. Aduke Gomez and Biola Alabi also introduced a wonderful book: “The Adventures of Lara and Dara.”
